Me, TARZAN

Today's #sketch_dailies topic was Tarzan. I've always been a fan (my brother and I even had our moms make us loin cloths when we were little so we could play Tarzan... TMI?... Maybe.). Anyway, here's mine!

Mr. Peabody & Sherman

Mr. Peabody and Sherman opens today and I'm so proud of it! Congrats to all my coworkers who worked so hard to make it what it is!!

My #sketch_dailies illustration today is dedicated to my good friend Jules, who passed away last night.  He was an amazing, selfless, kindhearted person and I will miss him greatly.  Fare thee well, good friend.  Till we meet again.

Hank Zipzer

Hey guys-- I know it's been a while since I've posted anything so I figure I'd put up some book covers I've been working on.  A little over a year ago I was contacted by Giuseppe Castellano at Penguin books about illustrating a series of children's books written by Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver, and I've been working on them in my spare time since then.  It's a really fun series about a boy named Hank and his struggles with dyslexia in school.  It's been such a great experience working on these things (I'm still finishing them up actually).  There will be 18 total. Here are 14 of them!  Oh and these represent the final versions I turned in, but some of the branding colors and other details may have been changed in the final printed versions.  You can find some of them on Amazon.com!

Super People

I've been working on a lot of stuff lately, both personal and freelance, all of which I haven't been able to post.  Eventually I'll get it all up on here-- but for now, here are a few pieces I recently did for a gallery show the story department held here at work.  Hope you enjoy!  -t

Bart

I Decided to do a more "rendered" version of 'Bart' from the Western stuff I've been working on.
After running a first pass by my coworker Tim (Lamb), this is where it's at! (Also including the first version for comparison).
Enjoy!!

Sketchies and Scribbles

I recently moved up to San Francisco and have been trying to get out a little bit more to sketch. These are a few pages of scribbles, mainly from Dolores Park. The city lends itself well to drawing people...

Robot Fun!!

I was recently asked to play around with some robot designs for a possible iPad game/ property idea. In the end, they ended up going another direction, but I thought I'd post these just for fun. I have fairly little experience when it comes to robots so it was fun to get out of my comfort zone a little bit.

Happy Holidays!

This time of year always makes me want to do some santa pieces of some sort, so here are a couple I thought I'd post.

The first one started out as just a doodle and I ended up finishing it up. I couldn't decide whether to give him a red or a green bag, so I went with both. I thought it would be cool if it had sort of a "quilted" look, like maybe Mrs. Claus made it for him.

The second piece is based on a guy I saw on a bus in SF a few weekends ago (photo included). I don't know if he was a Mall Santa who just got off duty, or just a guy who recongnized his striking resemblance and just went for it, but I loved it either way.

Hope you guys enjoy.
Merry Christmas!

*I know that "N. Polk" is not actually a stop but my brother joked about him wanting to go to the "North Pole", not "North Polk" and I thought it was good, so I wanted to throw it in the painting.

Giddy'up

Haven't had a chance to play with the western stuff for a while, so thought I'd get back to it today.
Another possible character in the western story I hope to someday turn into a comic...

Hope you enjoy!...

I Love Kiwi

Some of my work is currently being featured on the kiwilicious blog at

http://blog.kiwilicious.com/

It's a beautiful site with tons of great artwork and photos.

Check it out!!

Also, while you're there check out the stuff by my former classmate Erik Otto.
He's one of the best artists in the Bay Area (I've even had the pleasure of participating in a gallery show with him)--amazing work.

Double A to the B

So I've been feeling inspired lately by a lot of poster art, mainly related to bands and music and what not. I figured what I'd do, is I'd start making some posters of the shows and concerts I've been to this year...So to kick it off, my A.A. Bondy poster. This one came out a bit more "cartoony" than I actually had in mind to begin with, but I'm hoping to play around with some different styles and looks. Stay tuned for more to come...

Hypothetically Speaking

This was just something I was playing around with for a band that I don't believe really exists.
A hypothetical band poster, if you will.

*After a search on iTunes, I did find a band called "Hollow Bones", but this is in no way related to them.

Light Fiction

So my good friend Tawnee just joined a band and she asked me to do a drawing for website/album art/what-have-you. This is one of what will probably be a few different images still to come. Also go check out their first couple of recordings at lightfictionmusic. They have a little bit of an old-timey sound to their music that makes me think of sitting in an old classy jazz club or speakeasy, where everyone dresses up and sips on cocktails while smoking cigarettes on those long cigarette holders. But maybe that's just me.

Abominable Snow Yeti

My friend/coworker Josh Lieberman decided to dub this month "Yeti December" and is trying to get as many people as he can to post their own Yetis on their blogs. If you decide to do so, send him your link at http://www.kn8ian.blogspot.com/
